Avalon, Mississippi’s John Hurt was always a bit of an anomaly in the blues. His gentle singing and finger-picked guitar sound were like nothing else to come out of his home state. One quick look at the output of his December sessions for OKeh Records and you can see why it is known as one of the most important and influential pre-war blues sessions of all time.
